Mission

Statement

 

The Mission of Dance4Grandma Productions is to provide professional opportunities for gifted artists and to offer affordable theatrical experiences that reflect the breadth and diversity of the Southern Illinois region.  Believing that the performing arts are vital to the growth and health of a community, Dance4Grandma Productions is committed to its educational outreach and artistic integrity.

 

Article I – Name and Principal Office

 

The name of this Association shall be Dance4Grandma Productions, hereinafter referred to as D4G Theatricals.  Its’ principal office is to be located in the City of Carbondale, County of Jackson, State of Illinois.

 

Article II – Statement of Purpose

 

Section 1.  Notwithstanding any other provisions of these articles, D4G is organized exclusively for the following apolitical purposes:  Literary, THEATRICAL, educational, and/or entertainment purposes.

 

Section 2.  The purpose of the Association shall be to further the education of and provide entertainment to its members and the community in the area of dramatic arts, with specific emphasis being on the art of Musical Theatre productions, but not limited to other forms of drama (plays, dance).

 

The Association shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth above.

 

 

 

Article III – Membership

 

Section 1.  Membership is open to all persons, without discrimination, who are interested in the purposes and aims of the Association, who are willing to subscribe to the Bylaws, who are otherwise qualified under provisions set forth in the Bylaws, and have paid yearly membership dues of $20.00.

 

Section 2.  Qualifications for Membership.

 

  • An expressed interested and willingness to work in some aspect of the dramatic arts.
  • Continued membership in the organization after the first year shall be contingent upon the following criteria:
    1. Active participation (either on stage or backstage) in some capacity with the productions and/or activities of the Association, or
    2. Active participation as an elected officer or appointed.

 

Section 3.  Duties of Members

 

  • Participation in events organized by the Association including social, general, ticket sales, advertising, and production.

 

Article IV – Board of Directors

 

Section 1.  The Board of Directors shall consist of:  Producer/President, Artistic Director/Vice President, and Technical Supervisor.  Along with these 3 positions, 2 more positions shall include Secretary and Treasurer.

  1. Along with the stated board positions, a 7th position is available and optional for involvement with a young adult that is interested in furthering their education and knowledge of Board activities, in hopes that when of age, they can take on a major responsibility and board position.  This position is called Assistant Producer.
  2. This position is open for any young adult from the ages of 16 to 21.
  3. Their involvement and participation will be supervised by a standing board member at all times.
  4. There shall also be a position within the Board of Directors that is to be held by a member of the First Christian Church congregation.  This position is a liason between the Theatre and the Church.

 

Section 2. DUTIES of the Board

 

  • Producer/President – Sole purpose is to oversee all aspects of fundraising for the Association.
    1. Other duties include all advertisement and ticket sales formats.
    2. The Producer shall be in control of recruiting other members/workers to help in fundraising/producer activities.
    3. Along with the Secretary, they President is the leader of all board meeting.Artistic Director – Oversee all aspects of the actual performance part of productions.  (Casting, appointment of production crew, rehearsals aspects)
    4. Hiring of Production staff includes directors, stage managers, orchestra, and rehearsal staff.
    5. Artistic Director also organizes and arranges all budget proposals for every show so the standing board can vote and agree upon.
  • Technical Supervisor – Manage, maintain, and oversee all technical aspects of productions. (Set Construction, Lightning, Sound.)
  • Secretary --  Control and record all minutes of all meeting, and be responsible for all program or playbill aspects.
  • Treasurer – Responsible for keeping all records that deal financially within the theatrical organization.

 

Section 3.  Election of Board

            The election of the board will take place every 12 months, and shall be voted upon by the entire member pool of D4G productions.  This will take place at during on of the meetings, in which ALL members will be encouraged to attend. 

            Nomination of Board Members will take place during the designated time during the meeting, in which the secretary will control all aspects of election.

 

Section 3.  The Board of Directors shall hold AT LEAST 3 meetings per year, which will be open to all official members.  One of the required meetings will include the election of new board members.

Section 4.  Equality and Fairness

a.  In the event of an issue arising that would not be covered by the laws and procedures listed, decisions will be made by the D4G Board of Directors bases upon consideration of fairness and good of D4G.

 

Article V – Production Selection Committee

 

Section 1.  Selection Committee will and shall be comprised of the Board of Directors and any member who has paid his/her dues.

 

Section 2.  All ideas, requests, and suggestions will be considered when choosing shows for production.

 

  • Submission of some form of script/music is required for the play/musical to be reviewed. 
    1. Included in the submission, one must include the publishers, contact info for licensing, and purchase.

 

Article VI  -- Abusive Behaviors and Their Consequences

Drug usage/abuse, physical violence, sexual harassment/abuse, or excessive alcohol usage by any D4G member will not be tolerated. A member found to be involved in any of the aforementioned behaviors will have their eligibility for membership re-evaluated by The Board.

 

Article VII --  Dissolution of Organization

 

            Section 1.  Upon the dissolution of Dance4Grandma Theatricals, all assets will and must be distributed to other existing non-profit organizations.

 

            Section 2.  First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Carbondale, IL and ARTSTARTS of Marion, IL will be sole benefactors in the distribution of all assets from Dance4Grandma Theatricals.

 

Article VII—Policies and Procedures

The Board may establish, terminate, or modify policies and procedures by a majority vote. Any policy or procedure may be terminated by a 67 (sixty-seven) percent vote of Voting Members present at any meeting.

Revised policies and procedures will be archived and a copy retained by the Secretary.
